Monday Morning Mindset with Release
An old man had three sons who were constantly quarrelling with one another. No matter how much the father pleaded with them to live in peace, they refused to listen, each always trying to prove he was better or stronger than the others.
One day, feeling his health failing and worried about the future of his family, the old man called his three sons to his bedside. He asked them to bring him a bundle of sticks tied tightly together.
The sons were puzzled but did as they were told. They brought the bundle and handed it to their father.
The old man handed the bundle to his eldest son and said, "Break this bundle of sticks in half."
The eldest son strained, using all his might, but the sticks were bound too tightly together. He could not bend them, let alone break them. He handed it back, saying, "It is impossible, father."
The second son took the bundle. He placed it across his knee and pulled with all his strength, but the bundle remained perfectly intact.
The youngest son, confident in his youth and strength, tried next. He wrestled with the bundle until he was out of breath, but he too failed to break it.
"We cannot do it," the sons agreed. "No man can break this bundle as it is."
The old man smiled faintly. "Untie the bundle," he instructed.
The sons untied the cord, and the sticks fell loosely onto the floor.
"Now," the father said to the youngest, "take a single stick and break it."
The youngest son picked up one stick and snapped it in two with barely any effort.
"Now you," the father said to the second son. He too picked up a single stick and broke it easily. The eldest did the same.
The old man looked at his three sons and said, "My sons, you are like these sticks. If you stand together, united in spirit and purpose, you will be like the bundle. No adversary or hardship will be able to break you. But if you continue to quarrel and remain divided, you will be like the single sticks. You will be weak, and the world will easily break you one by one."
The brothers looked at the broken sticks on the floor and then at each other. Realizing the wisdom of their father's words, they promised to put aside their petty arguments and stand together as one.
