April 2026 - Benefits of Inhalation

Benefits of Inhalation

Have you ever noticed how a scent can shift something in you before you even have time to think about it? One deep breath… and suddenly you feel calmer, clearer, or even transported to a memory you didn’t expect.

There’s a reason for that.

The body’s limbic system is the center of memory, emotions and motivation. Unlike our other senses, the sense of smell is wired directly to the emotional cortex of the brain. This is why you have an emotional response to an aroma before you have a logical one.

The molecules of essential oils are so tiny they lift off the surface of the oil and become airborne, this is why they are so fragrant. Oils must be diffused by cold air diffusion in order to preserve the integrity of the molecules. Heat & water alter the structure of the molecules and can render them useless, even toxic.

As they are inhaled they stimulate the receptors of the olfactory system. These receptors are similar to hair like extensions of the nerve fibers that lie submerged in a thin layer of mucous. As the vapor molecules enter the nasal cavity, they are received by the receptors, similar to a key in a lock. When a vapor has a proper structure it is received by the nerve ending in the form of impulse. The nerve impulse is transmitted to the limbic system. The limbic lobe can also directly activate the hypothalamus acting as our hormone control center, which is referred to as the master gland.
This is where things begin to shift—physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Benefits of Inhalation

  • increase oxygen availability to our cells

  • relax the body
  • relieve tension
  • clear the mind
  • help with weight management
  • improve concentration, alertness & mental clarity
  • stimulate neurotransmitters
  • stimulate secretion of endorphins

  • improve the immune system
  • help eliminate/heal respiratory conditions
  • neutralize acid
  • remove metallic particles & toxins from the air
But the story doesn’t stop at the physical level.
The body's limbic system is the center of memory, emotions and motivation.

EMOTIONAL BENEFITS OF THERAPUTIC ESSENTIAL OILS

  • All our senses are wired directly to the rational cortex of the brain, except for the sense of smell
  • The sense of smell is wired directly to the emotional cortex of the brain
  • This is why you have an emotional response to an aroma before you have a logical one
  • The response to an aroma gives us a lot of clues

Our emotions are a combination of our thoughts and feelings that have been impressed onto the subconscious mind and becomes starred in the body by repetition, especially when we are confused, when we feel powerless or have a misguided reality. If we are not emotionally mature enough to handle the situation we will store that emotion somewhere in our body. These star emotions are living, intelligent, active centres of energy. They broadcast their influence in our lives as long as they remain stored within the body.
When these beliefs and emotions are resolved, our lives become more productive, and our sense of peace and happiness increases.

Your body contains 70 to 100 trillion cells, each of which contains equivalent to 6 GB of memory in each cell.
Repressed emotions remain alive and active in our bodies and influence and direct our lives for good or for ill.

Repressed emotions, restrict and warp our lives in innumerable ways. To name a few:
  • Enslaving us to compulsions and negative habits,
  • causing us to act socially inappropriate
  • creating dis-ease or lack of ease in our body,
  • sabotaging our efforts to achieve success,
  • leading us into socially undesirable situations,
  • destroying the good situations and relationships in our lives,
  • misguiding our judgement in financial matters,
  • confine us to an unrealistic view of the world,
  • rob us of a sense of purpose in life,
  • prevent us from gaining a sense of direction or focus in choosing a mate, a career or a livelihood,
  • create a sense of instability in our lives,
  • block our spiritual growth
  • and so much more,

In other words, nothing positive comes from stored negative emotions of any kind.

This is the true story of Charlie Plumb
Charlie grew up as a farm kid from Kansas with dreams of becoming a pilot. After graduating from the Naval Academy and completing his training, he became a part of the program which is now known as “TOP GUN.”
During the course of his career he flew 74 successful combat missions over North Vietnam.
Charlie was 5 days away from the end of his tour when he took off on his 75th mission…it didn’t go as planned.
He was shot down somewhere over Hanoi and was taken prisoner and tortured. He spent the next 2,103 days of his life (around 6 years) in a cell that measured 8 feet x 8 feet.
Charlie survived and continued flying for a few more years before retiring.
One day he and his wife were sitting at a restaurant and a man from another table came over and said, “You’re Plumb!” You flew jet fighters in Vietnam from aircraft carrier Kitty Hawk. You were shot down!”
“How in the world did you know that?” asked Plumb.
“I packed your parachute,” the man replied. Plumb gasped in surprised and gratitude. The man pumped his hand and said, “I guess it worked!”
Plumb assured him, “It sure did. If your chute hadn’t worked, I wouldn’t be here today.:
That night plumb couldn’t sleep he kept thinking about that man. Plumb says, “I kept wondering what he might have looked like in a Navy uniform: a white hat, a bib in the back and bell-bottom trousers. I wonder how many times I might have seen him and not even said ‘Good morning, how are you?’ or anything, because, you see, I was a fighter pilot, and he was just a sailor.”
As Charlie likes to ask, “who is packing your parachute?”
