July 2026 - Have Tea with Me

Come Have Tea with Me

A daily cup of tea results in daily dregs. What do you do with your used tea leaves and the bags. I decided to have some fun with my used tea leaves.
Here are some things I’ve found and some fun DIY recipes.

Re-steep Your Tea
My favorite tea to Re-steep is Market Spice Rooibos. Yes on the second cup I steep it longer. Fun, fact or fiction or maybe I made this up, I think the second steep of tea is lucky. Don’t fact-check me on that! I have it in my brain that the second steep is lucky, and if you want to, you can join me and make a wish as you pour water over the leaves. It’s a fun way to add a little magic to daily life. I love this tea hot or cold!

Treat Yourself to a Spa Day
For a different kind of magic, you can add a few drops of oil to those soggy leaves to harness the power of self-care. And if that doesn’t sound like magic to you, then perhaps you’ve never experienced the transformative power of an at home spa day. All my family know how much I love tea parties and at home spa days.
Some of the reasons tea infused skin care is growing in popularity is because of the high antioxidant content in tea.

Antioxidants help protect the skin from damage caused by unstable molecules called free radicals. These molecules form when the skin is exposed to environmental stress such as:
  • ultraviolet (UV) radiation
  • pollution
  • cigarette smoke
  • environmental toxins
  • blue light from digital screens
Free radicals can damage skin cells and accelerate visible signs of aging, including:
  • fine lines
  • wrinkles
  • dullness
  • uneven skin tone
  • loss of elasticity
Tea contains a class of antioxidants known as polyphenols, which help neutralize these damaging molecules before they harm skin cells.
One of the most well-studied tea antioxidants is EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), found in high concentrations in green tea. Research suggests that EGCG has strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that help protect and support skin health.

How Tea Helps Protect the Skin Barrier
Healthy skin relies on a protective outer layer called the skin barrier. The skin barrier performs several important functions. It helps:
  • prevent moisture loss
  • protect against environmental pollutants
  • defend against bacteria and irritants
  • maintain skin hydration and balance
When the skin barrier becomes weakened or disrupted, people often experience problems such as dryness, sensitivity, redness, and irritation.
Tea antioxidants help support the skin barrier by reducing oxidative stress and calming inflammation. When inflammation is reduced, the skin barrier can function more effectively. This is one reason tea-based skincare products are often recommended for people with sensitive or reactive skin. Instead of overstimulating the skin, tea ingredients work gently with the skin’s natural processes.

Used Tea Leaves , are loaded with antioxidants. Use any variety – green, black, white or herbal, each will provide benefits in their own special way. Please be mindful of your skin type when choosing what to include in your DIY spa oasis.

1.) Face Masks
To make the tea leaves a little more user friendly, give them a quick whisk in a food processor or blender.

Depending on your skin type, you could add a teaspoon or two of honey, baking soda, egg yolks or whites, coconut or olive oil, oatmeal, a couple drops of essential oil – whatever your skin will like! Just whisk up your desired ingredients with your tea leaves. Apply the mixture to your face, relax for ten to twenty minutes, and rinse!

My Favorite Face Mask Recipe
  • 1/4cup moistened used tea leaves of choice
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 4 drops Copiaba essential oil
  • 1 drop Vanilla essential oil
  • 1 drop Northern Lights Black Spruce
Put moist tea leaves and coconut oil in food processor. Whisk up. Remove paste. Put in small glass or stainless steel bowl. Add oils and mix well. Layer on face, relax for 10-20 minutes. Rinse.
I like to quadruple the tea leaves, use 1/4 of the batch and freeze the rest for quick access and easy prep when needed. Only add the oils directly before use.

* green, white, and herbal teas best for the face as caffeine can dry out the skin.

2.) Tea Paste for Hydration after Caffeine Mask

  • 1 tablespoon of green tea paste. Made from moist used green tea leaves, whisked in food processor.
  • 1 drop of valor
  • A drizzle of organic cold pressed olive oil
  • Smooth on face, relax for 10-15 minutes. Rinse of with warm water. Gently pat face dry.
3.) Sugar Scrub
Adding your leaves to a couple tablespoons of sugar and a drizzle of olive or melted coconut oil makes a lovely exfoliating scrub. Not only is it great for sloughing away dead or dry skin, but it’s also good for circulation! This works wonders on hands, feet, lips, elbows – anywhere that might be feeling dry or you just want to feel extra polished. It’s also awesome as a full body scrub in the shower.
Recipe:
1 cup moistened used tea leaves, a very brief whisk in food processor, remover from food processor then add
4 tablespoons coarse white organic cane sugar
4 drops of valor
Mix well. Apply to desired area

4.) Tea for Acne-Prone Skin
Tea can also be beneficial for people who struggle with acne or blemishes.
Recipe:
  • 1/4cup moistened used tea leaves of choice
  • 1 teaspoon organic cold pressed olive oil
  • 4 drops Copiaba essential oil
  • 1 drop Melrose essential oil
5.) Eye Treatment
Use in combination with a mask or alone. It is fabulous for reducing puffiness and dark circles under your eyes. Do note that since caffeine is what makes the treatment effective, using steeped leaves may not have as much of an impact as using leaves that were only moistened.
*Use two tea bags, or tea filter bags, muslin cloth, cheesecloth, or pieces of very thin towel to pack the tea, then moisten and place the parcels over your eyes for ten to twenty minutes. Lay back, wait for your face mask to dry... inhaling the delightful smell of your favorite aroma as the moisture from the leaves reinvigorates your skin and relaxes your mind.

6.) Foot Soak
There’s nothing like giving your feet a little TLC after a long day. Toss your used tea leaves into a soaking bowl or tub filled with very warm water, sit back, and enjoy. You could follow up with a sugar scrub, some stretches for the feet, and maybe even a foot rub with essential oils or your favorite lotion. Even better if you can get someone else to do it for you.

7.) Tea Bath
Yes I said a tea bath!! If soaking your feet in tea is a perfect way to unwind, why not try a full-body soak? Tea baths
are amazing for decompressing after a long day or revelling in the luxury of a quiet day to yourself. Remember to turn on the diffuser, put on some soft music.
Salt is super relaxing, and oatmeal helps soothe your skin.

Soothing Chamomile Soak
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of oatmeal
  • 1/2 cup of Epsom or Himalayan salt
  • 6 teaspoons of chamomile tea. I harvest chamomile from my yard so use it liberally.
  • 3 drop of chamomile essential oil
Directions:
Grind your oatmeal into a fine powder using a blender or food processor.
Add the salt and blend that as well.
Mix thoroughly with 6 teaspoons of Chamomile Bloom tea
Add the essential oils and put in a muslin bag.

Energizing Tea Bath
Ingredients:
  • 1 cup of Himalayan salt
  • 6 teaspoons of green tea
  • 2 drops lavender essential oil
  • 2 drops spearmint essential oil
Directions: mix ingredients all together in a bowl. Transfer into a Muslim bag. Attach under the faucet as you fill the tub. Letting the water run over the tea leaves and salt. Once tub is filled, allow the Muslim bag to remain in the bath water. Enjoy!

8.) Exfoliating Face Mask
Super Simple Exfoliating Face Mask
Ingredients:
  • 1 serving used tea leaves of choice, preferably green, white, or herbal
  • 1 teaspoon honey
  • 1 drop cedarwood essential oil
Directions:
Blend or chop your tea leaves until they are a workable consistency for smoothing on the face. Small chunks are fine, as they will aid the exfoliating process, but large chunks will not stick well to your face.
Combine tea leaves with honey.
Spread onto face. Let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse over sink or in shower.
Enjoy your glowing skin!

Courage in Wings
Thump! went Lily. She had jumped off her bed for the fifth time.
‘Ugh! Why won’t they come again?!’ she moaned.
Lily was trying to recreate the moment at school when Jessica the bully pushed her from behind when she wasn’t expecting it. As Lily hit the ground, feathery wings had sprouted out from her shoulder blades. Little feathers appeared on her forehead too.
Everyone stopped and stared until Jessica called her ‘Chicken girl!’ and everyone laughed. Lily ran home crying.
By the time she reached home the wings had disappeared
‘Right,’ thought Lily, ‘One last time.’ But this time, when she jumped, she hit something soft and furry that wasn’t the floor.
‘Shhh!’ it whispered.
Lily felt a frozen sensation like someone had pressed a pause button on her life.
‘What’s going on?’ she wheezed.
‘I’ll explain later,’ said the soft furry thing.
Lily felt a cold wind whirling around her then everything went black.
When Lily woke, she was in a grassy meadow with a small pond. A duckling was paddling around. Past the lake was a small town with a bakery that smelled like her kitchen when her mother was baking cakes. She could see human shaped things with wings flying around in the distance.
‘Yes, we are in another world!’ The voice said. Lily sat up and saw it was coming from a giant bumble bee.
‘Who are you?’ she asked, in pure shock.
‘My name is Blossom. Welcome to the Land of Wings!’ Blossom seemed to be smiling. ‘And yes, I can read minds!’
‘Oh,’ Lily didn’t know what to say to that. ‘But what is…’
‘The Land of Wings?’ Blossom finished her question, ‘Well, everything here has been built by your imagination. So I guess you have a secret dream to fly.’ Lily smiled shyly.
‘But,’ continued Blossom, ‘There is a… down side…’
‘What down side?’
‘You built this land with your imagination. Your mind is the master. But you’re only human. And every human has sad or scary thoughts at times.’
Lily didn’t want to think about this but Blossom continued, ‘So your worst nightmare is lurking right around the…’
BANG!
An enormous dragon appeared in front of Lily, staring her right in the eyes. A blast of heat hit her in the face as smoke twisted from its nostrils.
‘Blossom!’ Lily called out as the dragon took the bumble bee in its claws and opened its mouth.
Wait a minute, Lily thought, Blossom said my mind is master around here, right? The dragon turned his head and started towards her, still clutching Blossom.
I have wings and I can fly! thought Lily. Strong wings sprouted from her back. She flew up to the dragon’s face.
Let Blossom go! Go away and never return!
The dragon lowered the bee gently to the ground, opened its wings and flew away.
Blossom grinned. ‘You looked shy when I first met you! Now I can see you are stronger than we both thought.’
